Jack Micheline (1929-1998)Signed 1980 First Edition. Second Coming Press, San Francisco
Limited paperback in original wraps in FINE condition and protected in a clear plastic envelope. Skinny Dynamite begins with an exceptional “Statement of a poet” followed by a letter written by Allen Ginsberg in support of Micheline used for his defense in an obscenity case brought against him regarding the title story. 88pp. His work might have been left to the dustbin of history had it not been for the selfless effort of former President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Matt Gonzalez to collect his works into the single volume, Sixty-seven Poems for Downtrodden Saints. Because of this we can see the depth and fierce street-wise truth of Micheline’s poetic testimony of the heart. Undefeated, he turned his poverty into Art. His papers are now in the Bancroft Library. This is a rare signed copy of one of the last of San Francisco’s Beat Poets. Jack was a true Mission District luminary.
